This guitar should be making wonderful music for at least another century.Stellas aren’t supposed to sound this good! Here we have a 1960s Harmony made Stella parlor acoustic that has been completely overhauled and converted by the Folks over at Baxendale Conversions! If you’re not familiar with Baxendale, you should be! They turn old poor playing and sounding acoustic guitars into world class instruments through their conversion process. Harmony Standard Series guitars have handwritten or hard-stamped serial numbers that follow similar formats. It basically plays like a Waterloo (a brand now built by Collings) at a fraction of the price.
This guitar has seen the hands of a master luthier, receiving a neck reset, a new ebony fretboard, and as conversion from trapeze tailpiece to Martin style pin bridge. The sound hole sports a gold decal rosette, and there is a decal strip running down the center of the back. The top ornamentation coupled with the dramatic sunburst make for a quite attractive little guitar The body is solid birch, bound in white celluloid and 'rope' perfling on top. Built under licence for B&J in the 1930s, it is stamped Made in USA indicating that it was designated for export to Canada. There is a very similar example in Neil Harpe's 'Stella' book.
